PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICES
Psychotherapy (also known as "therapy") is an approach developed to assist people in addressing emotional, cognitive, and behavioral difficulties that are contributing to problems in their lives. Psychotherapy can be extremely effective, and for some, even life-altering. It offers a place that is both safe and challenging, in order to promote some desired change. That said, psychotherapy is not for everyone, and it is not the only - or even the best - method for certain people to confront difficulties. In general, psychotherapy involves face-to-face speaking interaction with a provider who is trained in psychological methods. Psychotherapy is not the same as counseling, peer-support, or life coaching.
The psychotherapeutic process is comparable to emotional strength training, similar to physical training but dealing with emotions, beliefs, and behavior patterns. It is rigorous and growth-oriented. Our goal is to help clients achieve greater awareness, insight, and regulatory skills to support independent control of their emotional lives. Symptom relief (what most people are seeking when they start therapy) is actually a side effect of this change process.
We provide psychotherapy for adults with a range of difficulties, including

Our approach is primarily cognitive-behavioral, but we integrate psychodynamic and existential interventions where appropriate. We specialize in time-limited, evidence-based treatments that we are certified in or formally-trained to administer, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for chronic pain (CBT-CP), Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Interpersonal Therapy for depression (IPT). We work with longer-term psychotherapy clients on a limited basis.
